What Role Does Calcium Formate Play in Fruit And Vegetable Fertilizer
Nov 18, 2021
In vegetable production, 80% of vegetables need more calcium than phosphorus. Root development and crop stem and leaf growth all need a lot of calcium, and the demand for calcium in crop fruits even exceeds that of nitrogen! From the perspective of demand, calcium fertilizer belongs to a large number of elements. So what are the effects of calcium on crops?
Calcium formate and calcium are essential nutrient elements of plants and important components of cell wall. Plant calcium deficient cells can not divide normally, and when it is serious, the growth point is necrotic, which is very prone to physiological diseases.
1. The cell wall is a large calcium reservoir of plant cells. Therefore, calcium deficiency will make the cell wall difficult to form, resulting in wall breaking, and then affect cell division. In terms of performance, calcium deficiency intuitively leads to fruit cracking, such as grapes and tomatoes. Weather and moisture are only the inducements of fruit cracking. The real reason is still due to calcium deficiency.
2. Calcium supplementation can not only inhibit fungal invasion and reduce the infection degree of diseases, but also reduce the toxicity of some ions in soil to crops (such as ammonium, hydrogen, aluminum and sodium plasma), but also eliminate the toxicity of organic acids produced in the process of plant metabolism.
3. In the process of crop fruit ripening, plant senescence is closely related to the production of ethylene, and calcium can reduce ethylene biosynthesis and delay senescence by regulating cell membrane permeability;
4. When the content of calcium in mature fruit is high, it can effectively prevent the decay phenomenon in the process of postharvest storage, prolong the storage period and increase the storage quality of fruit.
